Narrating border-crossing practices through the objects discarded by migrants
Mountain path between Claviere (Italy) and Montgenevre (France), summer 2018. On the sides of the crossborder mountain path, usually transited by Alpine tourists, fragments of Flixbus tickets, Italian asylum applications, telephone numbers, French refus d’entrée (denials of entry) reveal not only the passage of undocumented migrants, but also their fears and their strategies. According to their knowledge of the Dublin system, they have to get rid of every evidence of their passage across Italy if they don’t want to be pushed back by French border police.
